BRAKE SHOES
The brake shoe carries the brake block. The block was usually made of cast iron or composition material. When the brake is applied, the shoe moves and presses the block against the tread of the wheel. This scrubbing causes wear and tear on the wheel tread and often causes brake squeal. Tread brakes on passenger trains have now largely been superseded by disc brakes. Locomotive brake shoes are available in both composition and cast iron material according to AAR M-926. Various sizes are available to suit your locomotive application. Our brake shoe design and manufacturing materials help mitigate broken steel backs, friction material delamination and metal pickup, leading to fewer premature brake shoe removals.
